Local Go-Ride clubs provided 30 teams of 6 riders who competed head to head on a specially designed Go-Ride activity on the finish straights in Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Newport and Westminster.

Over 180 young people took part in the activities, which were delivered by a team of Coaching and Club Development Officers and British Cycling qualified coaches.

‘Go for Gold’

Following the Great Britain Cycling Team’s Olympic success the Coaching and Club Development team also co-ordinated the ‘Go for Gold’ programme this weekend. The aim of the programme was to provide as many opportunities as possible for young people to get involved in Go-Ride activities linked to the Olympic cycling disciplines.

Volunteers from 42 Go-Ride registered clubs organised ‘Go for Gold’ events which attracted over 1200 young people, all of whom received coaching from British Cycling qualified coaches.

Hetton Hawks CC is a Go-Ride registered club based in the North East and coach Tony Hodgson said, “We ran a ‘Go for Gold’ event on Saturday and as a result of this initiative we have signed up several new members.”
