CYCLE SPEEDWAY BRITISH TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW & PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW

The draw has taken place for the second round proper of Cycle Speedway's most prestigious team event, the British Team Championship.  This is the round where the top Premier League clubs enter the fray, and the protocals require that where a Premier club is drawn against a "lesser" club, then the smaller club takes home advantage.  Remarkably, all seven Premier clubs have been separated in the draw, leaving Birmingham's clash against Norwich as the only all non-Premier fixture. Holders Poole, with former Great Blakenham riders Jason Ashford and Adam Peck in their ranks, should progress at the expense of the weakened Suffolk club, put last year's runners up Wednesfield face a difficult trip to Bury.  Former Champions Southampton should be too strong for Newport, but will not relish a visit to the track where they lost a Premier League decider two years ago. All matches take place on Sunday 13th June 2004 at 3pm unless arranged with the Team Championship Manager. The full draw is as follows:

Birmingham v Norwich

Bury v Wednesfield

East London v Horspath

Eaton v Stoke

Great Blakenham v Poole

Hull v Coventry

Kesgrave v Leicester

Newport v Southampton

Premier League action resumes this Sunday (30th May)with unbeaten Horspath visiting Poole, Southampton travelling to Wednesfield, and Stoke facing a difficult trip to Norwich to take on county side Norfolk.  The day's local derby sees Leicester make the short trip to league newcomers Coventry. All fixtures commence at 2.00 pm.

NEW EVENT FOR BRITISH CYCLING NATIONAL CIRCUIT RACE SERIES

The success of British Cycling’s National Circuit Race Series in bringing exciting racing to the streets of our towns and cities and now a new race has been added to the calendar – the Colne Town Centre Grand Prix, to be held right in the centre of this attractive market town on the edge of the Pennines, on Wednesday 21 July 2004, starting at 7.30pm. The race, which will offer at least £1000 prize list, will use a course which is ideal for this kind of racing, being fast and wide with two long straights separated by wide sweeping corners, and a slight climb into the finishing straight on each lap to add to the interest. Technical organisers for the race will be the Cycling Development Group North West, and entries (£12 cheque payable to CDNW) should be sent to Ivor Armstrong, "Newlands", 2 Harrison Lane, Hutton, Preston, Lancs, PR4 4AJ, e-mail: ivor@cycling1.demon.co.uk .
