Following the medal success of the GB team
at
the Athens Olympics, British Cycling is running a special series of
Go-Ride activities based at Go-Ride clubs with the aim of attracting
new
riders into our network of Go-Ride clubs, mainly over the weekend of
4th
and 5th September. The activities will be based on the major Olympic
disciplines. This will be
a
great opportunity for clubs to open their doors to the community,
attract
new riders and benefit from the media profile of cycling in the weeks
after the Games. British Cycling Regional Coaching and Club Development
Officers will be working with Go-Ride registered clubs in order to
maximise the opportunity that the Olympics will create to inspire and
encourage young riders. Clubs will receive resources and support from
British Cycling to help make the event a real success and all children
taking part will receive free gifts. For details of where the Go for
Gold
Programme will be running in your area

The 53rd British Individual

Following on from the initial consultation meetings throughout the country, Jonny Clay is presenting an open forum outlining the results and proposals BC is hoping to instigate as part of its competition review. All interested parties are welcome to attend to hear Jonny speak and to have a say in how you think the future of our sport should progress. The meeting for the South Division will take place on Monday 20th September 2004 at the Five Rivers Leisure Centre & Swimming Pool (formerly Salisbury Leisure Centre) The Butts, Hulse Road, Salisbury, Commencing at 7.15pm
During the last year British Cycling has been conducting a comprehensive review of the manner in which the annual race programme is delivered. The project initially concentrated on racing aspects but subsequently expanded the review to cover all areas of cycle racing i.e. organising, official’s development and reward, structure of the licence point’s system and race categorisation. Prior to making formal proposals to the National Council in November, Jon Clay is holding a series of open divisional meetings to present the findings/recommendations and gain feedback from the membership. South East Division meeting is: 7.30 pm, Monday 13th September Bletchingley Community Hall, Bletchingley, Surrey. All members are welcome and this is your chance to get first hand information about proposed changes and make your comments known directly to HQ.

The final round of the Cycle Speedway Youth & Junior League takes place at the Astley & Tyldesley track in Astley near Manchester on Saturday 4th September, from 12 noon onwards. Ipswich look impregnable in the team competition, but will be bringing a 55-seater coach full of youngsters to seal their victory. Newport are favourites for the runner-up spot, but could face a late challenge from Sandwell, Hethersett and Exeter. Apart from the team event, there is also the matter of the individual grand prix titles to be decided - six in total, in two year bands from Under 8 to Under 18.
Entries are still open for this event. As only a low percentage of the maximum field allowed has been taken up by Espoirs, this event is now also open to Non Espoir riders (with the exception of Elite Category Riders).
