A new website – developed by the English
Institute of Sport (EIS), and produced in conjunction with the Talented
Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and UK Sport, has been launched to
help
talented young sportspeople make informed choices about their
university
and college applications - in order to allow them to pursue their sport
without neglecting their further education. The new Sport and Study site - www.sportandstudy.net
-
allows applicants who have a TASS award or who receive World Class
Performance Plan Lottery funding, to discover where the most suitable
place for them to continue their studies is, in relation to their sport
and the region in which they want to study.
A recent survey by poll specialists YouGov
has
revealed that young people now prefer cycling to football. In some
areas
of the country, 80% more youngsters prefer cycling to playing the
beautiful game, pollsters found. Chris Hoy, said: "Our success in
Athens
should be a great platform to inspire healthier children today and
future
generations of champions in the sports they already enjoy." The
research,
commissioned by Persil, also found that although more than one in three
parents believed their children are less interested in sport than they
were at the same age, over four in 10 make time to exercise with their
kids at least once a week. Persil, the sponsors of the GB Cycling Team,
is
supporting the Go-Ride programme, a national network of cycling clubs
aimed at encouraging under-18s to get on their bikes. The company is
also
spending £2 million on their Redder, Whiter, Bluer advertising
campaign,
featuring riders from Team GB, to further promote the
sport.
Entries are now being taken for the
