REVISED WHEEL REGULATIONS – CLARIFICATION
The item on revised wheel regulations which we included in this newsletter last week slipped through the editorial net and wasn’t as clear as it could have been. We were trying to say the following: In August 2004 the UCI extended its regulations banning the use of “non standard wheels” (i.e. those with less than 16 spokes) to Track Bunch racing. These wheels were already banned in Road and Cyclo-Cross events. The UCI have now reversed this decision, so “non standard wheels” (i.e. those with less than 16 spokes) can once again be used in Track Bunch racing. Appendix 1 of the 2004 BC Technical Regulations gives more details of this regulation (UCI Regulation 1.3.018). Any queries please contact paulwest@britishcycling.org.uk or 0161 274 2021

EVENT UPDATES

BMX
Look out for announcements about an indoor BMX venue in Sheffield.  Details will be released soon.  There's BMX Racing a-plenty this weekend. Decoy in Newton Abbot have had to cancel their event on Saturday as the Autumn weather has meant that the new track changes haven't settled in yet.  Braintree Club in Essex are hosting an open race and Mid Lancs in Coppull, near Chorley also have an open event this Sunday.

There's also one change of venue for this weekend.  Andover are unable to host an event, so the Bournemouth club have stepped in.  Registration will end at 11.45am and racing will start as soon as someone figures out how to write Moto Sheets!  Track address is: Iford Playing Fields, Iford Lane, Bournemouth.  Go to:www.bournemouthbmx.co.uk for info or call Geoff Routledge on 01202 475810.

On the 14th of November, Rotherham will host round 2 of the Midland Winter Series.  Registration is from 10.30 until 11.30 and racing starts at Midday.  Track address is: Little Common Lane Kimberworth, Rotherham.  Go to: www.rotherhambmx.com or call Carole Foster on 01709 306233.  Email: carole_foster@blueyonder.co.uk

CYCLE SPEEDWAY - INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Five national titles will be decided this weekend when the 2004 British Individual Indoor Cycle Speedway Championships are staged at the Broughton Recreation Centre in Camp Street, Salford. Indoor racing is often regarded as the most spectacular version of the sport, but only those with the best bike handling skills can excel on the boards - it's definitely not for the faint hearted.  Saturday's programme starts with the younger end of the spectrum, the under 13s and under 16s, before the veterans give a taste of what's to come the following day.  Multiple champion Frank Finnegan of Astley & Tyldesley is still the man to beat in this category, despite conceding up to 16 years "advantage" to his veteran rivals.  Sunday sees the Under 19 and Senior Open categories in action.  Local favourite Chris Eaton of Tameside scored a 20 point maximum to take the under 16 title last year, and with reigning under 19 champion Darren Slater currently out of competition, Eaton must fancy his chances as he moves up a category this year. Last year Chris Finnigan took the Open title, completing a rare double with father Frank, but defending an indoor title can be tough, as former champion Steve Harris of Horspath has found in recent years.  With 40 entries and two qualifying rounds to negotiate competition is sure to be fierce.
