NEWPORT
WEEKEND FOR CYCLISTS WITH A DISABILITY
A weekend for cyclists with a disability is to be held
over
the weekend of 29th/30th January, based around Newport in South Wales.
The
Saturday will comprise of two track sessions on the velodrome in the
afternoon and early evening. On Sunday morning a group road ride is
planned around the Newport Area. Coaching will be provided for the
Track
sessions. Those new to riding on indoor cycle tracks are particularly
welcome but sufficient track time will be made available for those with
track experience too. Track bikes will be available for hire for those
who
need them. Those with a visual impairment will get the use of an
experienced pilot and Track Tandem for at least one of the two sessions
(depending on demand). Almost all Disability Groups can be catered for.
The BC Database already includes cyclists with Locomotive, Ceribal
Palsy,
Visual Impairment and Learning Disabilities plus
Handcyclists.
During Saturday there will also be a time put aside to
discuss those issues surrounding Cycle Sport for those with a
disability.
Representatives from the Great Britain Cycling Team will be on hand to
advise on plans to develop cycling for those with a Disability. The
next
four year cycle in preparation for the Paralympic Games of 2008 has
just
begun and British Cycling is looking to build on the successes in
Athens.
Anyone interested in attending this weekend or wanting to know
more about British Cycling and Cycling for those with a Disability is
encouraged to contact mailto:paulwest@britishcycling.org.uk
or 0161 274 2021.
Hornton Hill is in the process of appealing against being shut down. Off Road facilities are hard enough to find as it is, so any support for Hornton Hill would be appreciated. Letters of support can posted direct to the council or e-mailed to Damion Haines at: mailto:DAMION@haines64.freeserve.co.uk , but will need to be addressed to CHERWELL DISTRICT COUNCIL, PLANNING DEPT, BODICOTE HOUSE, BODICOTE, BANBURY, OXON. Please put your name and address at the top of the letter, so that the council know it is genuine. Regards, Damion Haines.
The 2005 MTB calendar is close to being finalised,
so

As one season closes, another one opens. Jason Carpenter of Dragon
Downhill will be running a handful of Uplift days at Taff Trails and
Abercarn. Jason's also
taking the step of putting on a couple of races over the winter. The first one being at Taff
Trails on the 7th of November.

Newnham Park near Plymouth for the first round of this winter's Soggy
Bottom Cross Country Series.
Newnham will host all 5 rounds starting on the 7th of November
and
running through to the 6th of March 2005. Expect to see Newnham hosting a round of NPS XC and
the
Trek 6-4-2 Enduro in 2005, as it's still one of the premier venues in
the
country. For further

Braintree, Essex, will also be hosting races on Sunday the 7th. Venues and secretary contacts
