BRITISHCYCLING.ORG.UK
http://www.britishcycling.org.uk this week includes plenty of
news from the first round of the Track World Cup as GB riders set about
qualifying for the World Championships and the Olympics. And of course
there’s all the usual news, results, classifieds and photo
galleries.
REVOLUTION 3 – MEGA-STARS ON
SHOW
Next week’s (28 Feb) Revolution 3 Track Meeting at
Manchester
Velodrome is an absolute must-see event, with a unique opportunity to
see
French stars Arnaud Tournant and Florian Rousseau in action in this
country. Tournant was virtually unbeatable in the Kilo until Jason
Queally
beat him at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. He remains the only man to have
gone
under a minute for the four laps and has ten world championship golds
to
his credit. Rousseau is perhaps the greatest match sprinter ever and
with
10 world and two Olympic golds to his name. For the connoisseur, it’s a
fantastic opportunity to compare these guys with the GB sprinters who
will
be going head to head with them in a Team sprint event. With plenty of
other racing from endurance riders and future stars, it looks like
being
the best Revolution yet. And at just £6 a ticket, it’s just about the
best
value for money evening out you’ll find. Come along, bring your mates
and
just enjoy the buzz of being at a full velodrome. For further
information
on the race programme and riders attending please visit
www.cyclingrevolution.com or call the information line on 0700 594
2579.
Tickets are available in advance or can be purchased on the night from
the
Velodrome box office.

Velo Club Deal
These clubs have shown a commitment to
working
towards Go-Ride Accreditation, which incorporates Sport England's
Clubmark
programme, supported by British Cycling's network of Regional Coaching
and
Club Development Officers. Assessment for Go-Ride Accreditation covers
4
main areas for sports clubs that work with children and young people
and
usually takes up to 12 months to complete. These areas
are:
An additional 127
cycling clubs have expressed an interest in the Go-Ride programme and
the
network of Regional Coaching & Club Development Officers are guiding
them
through the above registration process. Over the past 24 months the
World
Class Start Talent Team have visited 157 secondary schools to give
children a "taste of cycling" through a one-day visit. As a direct
result
of the visits, 11 secondary schools have affiliated to British Cycling
as
School Cycling Clubs. In other schools, children who have expressed an
interest in cycling have been directed towards safe coaching activities
within Go-Ride Registered Clubs. For more information visit the Go-Ride website
www.go-ride.org.uk or
or hit the club development button on the
britishcycling.org.uk website homepage.

POWERCRANKS BANNED
You may have noted an article
on
pages 40 & 41 of the 10th January addition of Cycling Weekly Magazine
above PowerCranks. This product allows the cranks to act independently
of
each other. All members should note that, in the interests of safety,
the
British Cycling Board has ruled that this equipment is banned with
immediate effect for use in all competitions run under the regulations
of
British Cycling. It is the view of the Board that this equipment could
compromise the handling capabilities of the cycle on which it is used.
Members should note that this ruling does not refer to, and should not
be
confused with, SRM Powercranks.
Rik Forte's first indoor BMX event will take place on Saturday
the 6th of March at the Weston Super-Mare arena. Expect light shows, a great
sound system, a new racing format, Pro riders from Europe and the US,
dirt
jumping featuring some of the UK's top riders and a whole evening of
activities taking you through to 10.00pm. Riders need to pre-register for this event by
February
the 26th, so download an entry form from http://www.bmx40.com Directions to the Arena
will be posted on the web today.
The address is Winterstoke Road, which is just south of the town
centre. Expect AA Arena
signs to be posted from junction 21 of the
M5.
Sunday the 7th of March will be the first round of the Tomac
National 4X series at the same Weston Super-Mare venue. Details for this event are
posted on http://www.nps4x.com Entry forms are available now and information
will be with all the 2003 competitors by
Friday.
Another one of Mr Forte's creations will be used at the bike show in 2004. There will be 4X and BMX racing on all 3 days. Here's the provisional schedule and ticket hotline. Diamondback Race Track at the Bike Show 16-18th April NEC Birmingham. 4X Racing starts at 10.00, 11.45, 15.15 and 17.00 each day with BMX racing and BMX Dirt Jumping at 13:30. Important details coming soon!
WORLD & EUROPEAN MTB CHAMPIONSHIPS
For those riders interested in
competing at the Youth and Juvenile European Championships for
Downhill,
Trials and Cross Country, the event is definitely on, but no more
information available other than August 13-15 at Metabief, France. As soon as we know how many
riders can go, the qualification criteria will be published and based
on
performance within NPS events.
Qualification criteria for the Junior and Senior DH & 4X World &
European Championships will be posted on the BC web under
MTB.
Posted on the website over the
weekend
will be entry forms for the National Series in 4X, Dirt Jumping and
Cross-country (including Trek 6,4,2 Enduro). Hit the Mountain Bike
button
at the bottom of the homepage for all your MTB
links.
Selection documents relating to the
Downhill classes at the European and World Mountain Bike Championships
will also be posted in the next couple of days. Hit the Mountain Bike
button at the bottom of the homepage for all your MTB
links.
Entry forms for the all new NPS XC and Trek 6,4,2 Enduro
series
are available on http://www.inevent.co.uk and will be on the BC web by the weekend. As promised, racing under the
new format includes big reductions on race fees. All other organisers of BC
sanctioned events should email their forms to mtb@britishcycling.org.uk
for publication. The Midlands XC series details are nearly finalised
now.
Organiser Alan Verney keeps http://www.shokwave-racing.co.uk up to date, so expect to see series announcements
very
soon. April 25th already
announced as Round 1, location Sherwood
Pines.
Changes to the way riders can
qualify
for XC, DH and 4X World Cups in 2004 are planned. No further details yet, but
initial rumblings suggest there will be qualification races for riders
with no UCI points.
Riders
with valid Downhill UCI points will receive their application form in
early March.
It's the weekend before the Tours Indoor
race,
so the following 2 races taking place this Sunday should prove
popular. Royston are
hosting a round of the East Anglia winter series, while Coppull are
hosting a round of their popular Mid Lancs winter
series.

THE TOUR OF DERWENT RESERVOIR MARCH 28
The Tour of Derwent Reservoir,
the
North East's premier season opener, can finally be confirmed as taking
place on March 28th. The technical issues that threatened to call the
event off were resolved at a hastily arranged meeting last week and the
event, won last year by Chris Newton who stopped Mark Lovatt in his bid
for a record fifth win in a row, will take place on the hard hilly 12
mile
loop around Derwent Reservoir in County Durham.
