REVOLUTION 3 – MEGA-STARS ON SHOW

Tickets for this weekend’s (Sat 28 Feb) Revolution 3 Track Meeting at Manchester Velodrome have been going well this week, but there will still be plenty available on the door for those wanting to purchase on the day. The event itself looks like being another great evening of entertainment, with French sprint stars Arnaud Tournant and Florian Rousseau in action against Queally, Hoy and MacLean, all fresh and tanned from a winter in Australia. With match sprinting and a Team Sprint head to head between GB and France, it should be a great night for the big men. The evening will also see the formal beginning of British Cycling’s wide-reaching sponsorship agreement with Persil, with a first outing in Team Persil colours for a number of GB stars. With plenty of racing from endurance riders and future stars, it looks like being the best Revolution yet. As usual, many will be turning up for the social side, with a track-centre bar and a friendly family atmosphere, it’s one not to miss. There will even be a chance to view the brand new Jaguar estate car, with the British manufacturer organizing to have one track center. See you there! Tickets £6, racing beginning at 7pm. WIRRAL BIKEATHON

Organisers of the sixth Wirral Bikeathon (patron Chris Boardman) are hoping for even more entries than ever this year. The Wirral branch of Leukaemia Research Fund staged its first Bikeathon in 1999 and number of riders has increased annually and last year about 1300 riders raised £45000. The Wirral group is now looking to attract entrants for the sixth annual ride on Sunday June 20th 2004. The organisers stress that it is a ride and not a race and invite everyone from eight upwards to take part. The entry fee is £5 for adults and £2 for those aged 16 and under (fees change to £10 and £5 on the day). When the entry fee is received riders will be sent an entry pack with a free T-shirt, route map, rider’s number and general information. All riders are asked to raise as much sponsorship as they can and at the end of the ride will receive a commemorative medal. The figure of eight course will start and finish in Arrowe Country park, Upton.Free refreshments will be available at checkpoints and the route will be well signed with more than 80 marshals stationed along it to guide the riders. Both Raynet and St John’s ambulance will be in attendance.
