Following the announcement of the new format XC National Points Series and Trek 6, 4, 2 Enduro’s, British Cycling is pleased to announce the inclusion of Go-Ride and Talent Team coaching sessions for under-eighteens on-site at the events. At each of the four rounds a Go-Ride skills based coaching session will take place whilst the Trek enduro events are in progress (i.e. second day). The session –free of charge to all participants - will provide youngsters under the age of 12 together with newcomers to the sport an opportunity to be coached by British Cycling qualified coaches from Go-Ride registered clubs.  Based on the short course and around the arena, the sessions will last for around 1½ hours and will commence at 1pm. Prior to the Go-Ride session taking place, a Talent Team Academy session will be open to Youth and Junior category riders, and will be provided free of charge to all competitors who have taken part in the NPS event the day before.   A skills based session, the opportunity will provide youngsters progressing within the sport a chance to learn from some of the most experienced British Cycling coaches in mountain biking today, and there’s always a possibility that one of the country’s leading senior riders may drop in to pass on some top tips! The sessions will commence at 10am and last for around 1 ½ hours. For further information:  Gary Coltman, garycoltman@aol.com

Event News:

BULWELL OUTLAWS EASTER CLASSIC

Bulwell Outlaws will be holding the first Midland Regional race event of the 2004 season on the 11th of April at the original Nottingham Outlaws race track.  This will be the first race at the historic course for around 10 years.   The track has been on the same ground for around 23 years: a true ‘original’ of the BMX world. As well as the racing, there will be DJ’s playing all day in the 75ft marquee.  For the little ones, there will be face painting and fun and games for all. All riders are welcome; there’s a class for mountain bikes too.  All riders must be at least 5 years of ages.  All bikes must be safe to ride and have at least one working rear brake.  If this is your first time racing, then you are advised to ride in the novice category, which is divided into classes for age groups.   There will be the usual expert categories as well as a “dash for cash” 14+ open race. Any rider 14 and over can take part and on any bike with a minimum £1000 prize purse.

Points will be amalgamated from the two days racing to give overall results for the Easter Classic.  Race Fees: £5.00 Novice, £10.00 Expert and £15.00 Elite (Prize money to be announced) Trophy’s & Medals.  Camping available trackside at Bournemouth Saturday & Sunday night.  Cost: £10.00 for a Caravan or tent.

At opposite ends of the UK, it's NPS opening weekend for Cross-Country and Downhill.  Ae Forest, Dumfries will host round 1 of the NPS Downhill series.  The format has changed for this year, as Saturday will see practice and a seeding run with Sunday gaining extra practice time and one timed run.  The top 20 timed finishers in the male category and top 10 female will have the opportunity of racing at the World Cup in Fort William, so expect a whole bunch of top UK riders going for it.  Entry is available on Saturday subject to available space.  For further information, go to: GO THERE>>>>

NPS CROSS COUNTRY AND TREK 6,4,2

The NPS Cross Country has had a face-lift for 2004.  Martyn Salt is at the helm for the season and hopefully longer, so it's fitting that the first event should take place in Martyn's back garden.  Newnham Park, Plymouth is the location for Sunday's NPS and the all new Trek 6,4,2 Endurance series on Monday.  Trek will be in attendance over the weekend with a range of their bikes, including Trek, Gary Fisher and Klein available for testing from Saturday afternoon.  New courses, better prizes, new racing categories, catering for endurance riders and cheaper racing is well on it's way to being the success of 2004.  With over 300 entries already received, it's going to be a top weekend.  Entries are available on the day from 3pm on Saturday and 8am on Sunday and Monday.  Go to www.inevent.co.uk for further event information and to www.britishcycling.org.uk next week for photos and reports. TOMAC NATIONAL 4X SERIES

The advertised venue change from The Apex to Hornton Hill, Banbury on the 25th of April will also host round 2 of the 24 Seven/Dirty Habit Dirt Jump series.  This is a change in schedule proposed due to time restrictions on round 3 of the 4X series at Moelfre Hall on the 29th of May.  Moelfre Hall will now host NPS Downhill and 4X, but not Dirt Jumping. Round 3 of the Dirt Jumping will be at Hornton Hill on June 20th.
