British
Cycling is working with the Tour of Britain to recruit marshals and stewards for
this year’s event. We would like to hear from clubs who can raise a group of 10
volunteers, to help marshal/steward crossing points at sprints, king of
mountain’s sprints, starts and finishes. For the criterium stages in Glasgow,
Birmingham and London the Tour of Britain will need about 60 people around each
circuit. Each sprint or king of the mountains’ prime will need 10 volunteers.
Each start and finish will need 20 volunteers.
How
long will you have to be there?: Volunteers will be expected to arrive one hour
before the Tours ETA and then will be able to leave once the broom wagon has
passed whilst Volunteers at the starts and finishes will be expected to be there
from one hour before the ETA and then leave an hour after the race has finished.
What’s
in it for you?
--
You will have the chance to be officially involved in the Tour of Britain
--
An official Tour of Britain volunteer t-shirt
--
A Tour of Britain high-visibility tabard
--
Some refreshments
--
A goodie bag including a Tour of Britain programme
--
10 British Cycling bronze memberships paid for by the Tour of Britain
Not
surprisingly, the Tour of Britain will not be able to pay travelling expenses so
please chose somewhere in your locale. Is there an age limit? Yes volunteers
need to aged 18 years or above. Unless they are members of a Go-Ride club in
which case they need to be 14 or above and accompanied by an adult. There will
be one super prize awarded to the best-marshalled point throughout the Tour of
Britain. For more details of all volunteer opportunities, please contact Robert
Jefferies at mailto:Volunteers@britishcycling.org.uk

The
Premier Mountain Bike Series gets underway at Newnham Park, Plymouth, this
weekend – the weekend is structured as follows: traditional NPS racing Saturday,
What Mountain Bike Short Track Saturday evening and Trek 642 Endurance racing
over an 8 mile course on Sunday. The excellent Newnham Park race circuit has
been redesigned and the course will include the return of the infamous Pipleine
descent - the scene of many crashes at the numerous World Cups held at Newnham.
Newnham offers a great venue with camping and hot showers and all you need on
site. There will also be children's races and a good trade/team turnout in the
pit area including Trek, Raleigh/ERV, Giant Racing, Scott, Specialized, Saracen,
Hope Technology and Magura. Entries are available on the day or there's still
time to pre enter online Go There
>>>, which also carries up to the minute news on the Premier
Series. Pre entries are over 50% up on last year with a healthy turnout in all
categories and a good weather forecast for the season opener. We’ll be there and
there will be pics and reports on the site asap next week.

In
order to give more riders opportunities for success in the BC National Sprint
Championship to be held in Manchester on 5th/6th October, there will be a non
championship B' sprint competition, run alongside the main event. This will be
open to those who do not make the cut off time in qualifying to gain a place in
the sprint competition proper. Entry forms and schedules for the whole of this
Championship week can be downloaded from the Entry Form page of our
Website. Go There
>>>
Entry
forms and Schedule for the BC National Masters Track Championships are now
available and can be downloaded from the Entry Forms section of the BC Website
(see previous story for navigation tip). The promoter is particularly keen to
see more entries from Women and has deliberately restructured the entry fees to
encourage this.
