VACANCY: ACTIVE RECREATION AND ACTIVE LIVING MANAGER

£negotiable based Manchester

British Cycling is now looking to recruit an enthusiastic and talented individual who, reporting to the Director of Participation, will lead the organisation’s drive towards increasing informal and formal participation in cycling. Key goals will include encouraging lifelong participation in cycling as part of an enjoyable and healthy lifestyle amongst all groups; creating a nationwide community of active participants based on a programme of information, education and personal challenges; promoting and encouraging all groups to participate in cycling as a leisure pursuit and to integrate cycling into daily life, such as riding to school, work, to the shops or socially.

To succeed in this role you will need a sound knowledge of cycling as active recreation and active living, combined with particular experience of projects related to increasing participation in cycling/mass participation cycling events. Knowledge of National and Local policy frameworks for sport, recreation and transport is also essential. Ideally your experience will be gained in a sports and leisure environment. This is a key role in a new business area: sound financial management skills are a prerequisite as are commercial negotiation skills, people management skills, and planning and organisational abilities. Other areas of competence include an understanding of child protection and sports equity, the ability to work at both strategic and operational levels and the capacity to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends

If you wish to apply, please contact us for an application pack: Tel: 0161 274 2040, email to mailto:info@britishcycling.org.uk or by mail to: Corporate Services, British Cycling, National Cycling Centre, Stuart St, Manchester M11 4DQ - Closing Date for Applications is 27th April 2005 - Interviews will be held on 9th May 2005 Go There >>>

There’s a good guide to the funding plus downloadable application forms on the Londoncyclesport website  - Go There >>>

BUSA CHAMPIONSHIPS - MARSHAL HELP WANTED

Paul Jose, organiser of the BUSA (university) Road Race championships has been in touch asking for help from experienced marshals for the event on Sunday 15 May at Alcester, Warks. Paul says “We don't have the ability to draw on a club full of willing volunteers, so we are only able to organise the race due to 2 things: Very gratefully received assistance from the west midlands division in lead cars etc and asking for the universities to provide the course marshals. The latter is getting more difficult, and for this reason I am looking for 5 experienced marshals to help man the junctions on the Cookhill circuit, they could then direct the student volunteers to marshal properly !!!  I will cover reasonable expenses for travel to the event. Contact Paul Jose on 02476 614236 mailto:pauljose1@yahoo.co.uk

ENTRIES FLOODING IN FOR BC YOUTH NATIONAL TRACK OMIUM ROUND AT PORTSMOUTH

Due to the considerable number of entries already received for the Under 12's and Under 14's  competitions for the above to be run on Saturday 30th April, no further entries can be accepted for these categories. There are still a few places let for both the Youth A and the Women's Omnium Competitions but it is unlikely that entries will be accepted on the day, particularly for any youth category. TOP WEST YORKS RACE NEEDS ENTRIES

We’ve had a call from the organisers of the usually very popular John May Memorial road race on Sunday 8th May. This 115km event normally draws a quality entry, but with the closing date now passed, the organisers are well short of their goal. Taking place over a good course near Wakefield in West Yorks, easily accessible from the M1, M62 and A1 network, the event is open to E.1.2.3. However, the Lincoln GP which takes place on the same day seems to have drawn off most of the Elites and first cats – so all you second and third cats who fancy a ride, this could well bea good one to enter. Prize money goes down to tenth and there is a cracking trophy for the winner. Entries will still be accepted for a few more days so why not give it a go?
