BRIAN WALMSLEY

The death of NW stalwart Brian Walmsley was announced earlier this week. Brian was a member of the North West Division Committee, and was a dedicated race official, working on the track at Manchester Regional Track League, Kirkby Track League, the National Track Championships and the Revolution series. He also worked as a road commissaire throughout the North West. Brian was a dedicated and enthusiastic contributor to our sport who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. There will be a minute silence in his memory at both this week’s Manchester Regional Track League meetings. We send our condolences to his family and friends.

HOY, WIGGINS AND TOURNANT HEAD UP REVOLUTION 7

With two of the world’s greatest sprinters featuring at Revolution 7 on the 29th January, the scene is set for a revenge match of epic proportions. Arnaud Tournant and Chris Hoy will go head-to-head in a 500m Time Trial, racing against each other for the first time since the Kilo at the Olympics. The rivalry between these two legendary sprinters is huge and revenge will be top of the agenda for Tournant, who will be looking to set the record straight following Hoy’s victory over him in the Olympic Kilo.

Hoy and Tournant will also clash in the grand finale of Revolution 7; a France verses Britain Team Sprint with Craig MacLean and Jason Queally making up the British trio and Gregory Bauge and Francois Pervis joining Tournant. The British squad are the team on form having just won the Team Sprint at the Manchester World Cup. However, the French are the reigning World Champions.

The action doesn’t end there though as Olympic Pursuit Champion Bradley Wiggins (four times an Olympic medallist) and World Pursuit Champion Sergio Escobar Roure will be squaring up in the endurance events completing a superb night of racing and rivalry. Tickets are available to purchase in advance from www.cyclingrevolution.com or by calling 07005 942 579. Tickets are also available to purchase on the night.

2005 PREMIER MOUNTAIN BIKE SERIES

Trek, British Cycling and race promoter Martyn Salt (operating through Inevent) are all set for another year of supporting and promoting the UK’s top mountain bike Cross-Country race series. The 2004 Premier Mountain Bike Series was the first to be promoted under by the combined forces of Trek, British Cycling and Inevent and highly successful it was, visiting four traditional race venues.

For 2005 the series has been expanded to five events and sees the introduction of a new course in Cannock Chase and a return to the classic venue of Builth Wells. Each weekend will once again be packed with racing including the British Cycling National Points XC Series, the What Mountain Bike Short Course and the Trek 6-4-2 Enduro.

Trek's Brian Buckle said "The Premier series offers a full on weekend of racing, value for money, variety of terrain, good prizes and three different events. As well as racing this year we will be offering consumers the chance to test ride our latest technology including the all-new Fuel EX series, Top Fuel, selected Hard Tail models and a range of Women’s Specific Design bikes."

Well have entry forms and more details on the on-line MTB Calednar as soon as they are available – go to www.britishcycling.org.uk and hit the Race Calendar button on the home-page for a full menu of calendar options.

GO-RIDE CLUB DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCES

Following the success of the Primary School Club Links, Go for Gold and Tour of Britain programmes, delivered with the help of go-Ride clubs in 2004, club officials from Go-Ride clubs asked for the opportunity to meet with other Go-Ride club members to discuss best practice and share information. As a result, British Cycling will be hosting three Go-Ride Club Development Conferences. The conferences dates are as follows:

· Manchester – Manchester Conference Centre, 26th February

· Bridgewater, Somerset – The Exchange, 5th March

· London – Crystal Palace National Sports Centre – 12th March

The conferences will include a series of mini workshops designed specifically to meet the needs of your club and provide training opportunities for your club officials, coaches and volunteers together with the opportunity to discuss how Go-Ride should be developed in the future. Furthermore, we are pleased to offer every conference attendee a free T-shirt and one free ticket to a premier cycling event. Attendees at Manchester will receive a free ticket for the Revolution 8 track meeting on the same date. Attendees at Bridgewater and London will receive a free ticket for the Herne Hill Good Friday event on 25th March.

For more information about the conference, please see the conference programme (pdf download)
