OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALLISTS AT REVOLUTION 7
This Saturday will see four Great Britain Olympic Gold Medallists at the Velodrome, with Sydney winner Jason Queally (Kilo) and Athens stars, Chris Hoy (Kilo) and Bradley Wiggins (Pursuit) all in action on the boards, whilst there to watch them from the Track centre will be Sir Matthew Pinsent from Rowing. Another very special guest in the crowd will be five times swimming World Champion James Hickman.
As a keen cycling fan, Pinsent enjoyed watching the action at the Olympic velodrome in Athens last year and became friends with Wiggins after being impressed by his talents on the track. During the night, Wiggins will also be presenting Sir Matthew with an exclusive Terry Dolan road bike to help him keep in shape now that he has retired from Olympic rowing.
In the sprint action, Arnaud Tournant and Chris Hoy will go head to head in a 500m Time Trial, racing against each other for the first time since the awesome Kilo at the Olympic Games in Athens. The rivalry between these two legendary sprinters is huge and revenge will be top of the agenda for Tournant who will be looking to set the record straight following Hoy’s victory in Athens. Tournant was one of the stars of last year’s Revolution 3, playing to the crowd and racing like a man possessed, so don’t miss the chance to see a real track legend in the flesh and check out how Chris Hoy handles all the intimidation and gamesmanship sure to be coming his way. The action starts at 7pm and tickets will be available on the door - Adult ticket (£8.00) - Child and OAP ticket (£4.00) - Family ticket (£16.00). Go There >>>
TWO MORE CLUBS ACHIEVE GO-RIDE CLUBMARK
ACCREDITATION
Astley and Tyldesley Miners Welfare Cycle Speedway Club and Cleveland Wheelers are the latest two clubs to achieve Go-Ride Clubmark accreditation, incorporating Sport England’s nationally recognised, cross-sport kitemark of quality. The two clubs currently share the accolade with just one other cycling club in the country (V.C Jubilee).
Go-Ride Clubmark recognises the following areas of a club’s
activities:
1) Duty of Care and Child Protection – ensuring that club officials are trained and resourced to deal effectively with child protection and safety issues.
2) The Riding Programme – ensuring that the club runs safe, structured, regular coaching activities and competition for young people.
3) Sports Equity & Ethics – helping to ensure that the club is an open and inclusive environment where every club member can achieve their full potential.
4) Club Management – addressing the key issues of finance, planning, communication and development.
ASTLEY AND TYLDESLEY MINERS WELFARE CYCLE SPEEDWAY
CLUB
Astley and Tyldesley Miners Welfare Cycle Speedway Club is based in Astley, near Wigan and has one of the best cycle speedway tracks in the country and has staged many major championship events. It is also a great grass-roots club, with a thriving membership and a commitment to young riders.
Mike Hack, Go-Ride Club Contact for Astley and Tyldesley said, "We are delighted to receive this prestigious accreditation, as this confirms that Sport England and British Cycling consider us to have met their criteria for being a quality club. We see this accreditation as being an important tool in increasing recruitment, as parents, schools and other youth organisations can be confident in the knowledge that youngsters taking part in our club's activities will be properly cared for. I would strongly recommend that other clubs to follow suit and work hard to carry out the improvements necessary to acquire the Clubmark accreditation." CLEVELAND
WHEELERS
Cleveland Wheelers has over 160 members and runs regular coaching sessions on Wednesday evenings throughout the year at Clairville Stadium, an outdoor tarmac velodrome near Middlesbrough. Much of the club’s recent success in developing coaching and competition for young people has been due to its innovative approach to facilities and its collaboration with other clubs. In 1996 the club began to hire Redcar and Cleveland Go-Kart circuit once a month to provide a venue for local competition. They were soon overwhelmed with youngsters and the league flourished. The League was then developing into a collaboration between many local cycling clubs.
Club Contact Steve Binks, said, “This is a great step
forward
for Cleveland Wheelers. Achieving accreditation will assist the club
greatly in gaining more funding from the various agencies. It will also
assist us in negotiations with various bodies including Tees Valley
Cycling Forum, Guisborough Cycling Initiative and Middlesbrough
Council,
the last of which is pivotal in helping to decide the future of our
facility, Clairville Stadium. Accreditation will also give us more
credibility when working with local schools. For more details on the
Cleveland Wheelers, contact Norman Bielby on 01642

TWO NEW CYCLING COACHING COURSES
LAUNCHED
British Cycling Coaching and Education is pleased to announce the launch of two new coaching courses in its 2005 course programme.
The Activity Coach Award for Teachers (ACAT) provides all primary and secondary teachers with the cycling specific knowledge to deliver high quality cycling activities as a part of physical education lessons or after school clubs. Teachers that have already completed the ACAT course have started delivering Go-Ride and World Class Start activities in their schools; some have even formed Go-Ride School Clubs. The one-day ACAT course recognises teachers’ existing qualifications (QTS). Funding from Persil and SportsMatch means that there are FREE places available in some regions.
The Level 1 Coaching Award is the NEW entry-level course for people that have little experience of coaching or cycling. The Level 1 Award is aimed at people involved in cycling (i.e. club helpers, parents and other volunteers) that wish to become more involved and people that already work with children (i.e. teaching assistants, scout and guide leaders, etc.) that wish to introduce and develop cycling activities. The course covers all of the basics of coaching cycling and qualifies coaches to deliver British Cycling Go-Ride Gears 1 to 2 and to support a more qualified cycling coach.

FINAL SERIES OF CLUB COACH COURSES
ANNOUNCED
British Cycling’s successful Club Coach Award will be delivered for the final time in 2005. Since its first delivery in 2000, 56 courses have been delivered to over 900 new coaches. Coaches that have completed the course have gone onto undertake a range of coaching roles within cycling; from coaching in Go-Ride clubs and Go-Ride schemes through to helping riders achieve Olympic success.
From 2006 the Club Coach Award will be replaced by the NEW Level 3 Coaching Award, which will include a number of discipline specific units. This will further enhance the depth and quality of coach education delivered to cycling coaches in the UK, and ensure that the needs of all of the cycling disciplines are met. The updated coaching programme will underpin British Cycling’s continued success.
The new Level 3 Coaching Award will provide the next step in the coaching programme for existing Club Coaches. Existing candidate and trainee Club Coaches are encouraged to complete their qualification to allow them to access the new courses. The Club Coach status will continue to be recognised and supported by British Cycling.
