HETTON HAWKS - BMX RIDERS AND POTENTIAL COACHES WANTED

Following a successful bid to Sport England to improve the cycle facilities at Hetton Lyons Country Park near Sunderland, Hetton Hawks Cycling Club is looking for potential coaches and riders to develop their club. Stephen McIntosh from the club states “After the completion of the BMX track in May, the Hawks are looking at increasing the coaching offered to children. We would invite anyone with an interest in BMX regardless of age or ability to get in touch so we can start using the facility as soon as it is built.” The club has access to funds for potential coaches and has been successful in obtaining funding for bikes and safety equipment. If you would like to get involved in this already successful club, contact Stephen on 0191 2891881 or email lmstephen@aol.com

COACH EDUCATION SUCCESS

Since 2002 British Cycling (BC) and Cycling Time Trials (CTT) have been subsidising places on the British Cycling Level 2 Coaching Award (Activity Coach).  In the two years that the subsidy has been available, 86 coaches have benefited.  BC and CTT are pleased to announce that the subsidy will continue to be available in 2005.

The subsidy of £100 reduces the cost of the Level 2 course to £110 and is available to anyone who is unable to find alternative funding for the course.  A total of 60 subsidised places are available for 2005, representing a significant investment from both BC and CTT.  Keith Flory, Coaching and Education Manager, said, “the subsidy offered by BC and CTT has been important in allowing many new coaches attend the Level 2 course. The continuation of the subsidy for 2005 demonstrates the strong relationship between BC and CTT, and the commitment of both partners in developing cycling and cycle coaching within the UK”.

For more information on any of the British Cycling Coaching and Education courses visit www.britishcycling.org.uk or contact Coaching and Education on 0161 274 2060 or coaching@britishcycling.org.uk

COACHES AND EXPERIENCED CYCLISTS NEEDED TO HELP AT CHARITY EVENT

We’ve received news that paid staff are needed for a number of charity cycling events in the coming year. The work would include gentle coaching and guiding of participants, simple repairs to participants' bikes, and other support roles during the events. A clean driving licence is very useful, though not essential. Further details from gideon@hendonfc.net - put 'charity bike' in the subject line."
