21 Aug 2008 SRC are organising a Cyclo Cross Event on 14 September 2008 - details
21 Aug 2008 Tuesday and Thursday chaingang. For those of you who used to attend - yes, it's still on! The reason some of you may have been put off no longer happens. We now do approx. 6 laps of the old Creech race circuit. Little traffic, no traffic lights, head wind in short bursts - it's really good! Meet up at Creech Castle or Walford Cross same times as before (laps start from Walford Cross). See you there! Rich Gillingham.

I'm hoping to go to La Santa, Lanzarote again this November for the 'bike week(s)'.
It would be great if a few from the club could come too. If there is enough
interest I'll look into getting a special price for a shared room(s). Dates
are between Oct 30th - Nov 14th, I'll probably just go for 1 week unless its
a great deal! Flights can be arranged from Bristol. You can take your own bike
or there are decent Cannondales available over there, either inclusive for the
more basic or 85euros for the carbon one.
Its a fabulous week. The second week coincides with the 'tour of Lanzarote'
on the 9th Nov. Email Mike
Waterjohns if you are interested.
24 July 2008 From Simon Coles - a big thanks to Leigh yet again for doing a great job at Ilton, keeping the pace so high and pulling every move back in allowing me to make a last lap break on my own, take the win and gain my 2nd cat licence. Cheers, Simon.
14 July 2008 There is a 40kms 4-up event promoted by CS Dynamo on Sunday 17th August at 8am. The course is rolling with a fairly stiff climb and is completed twice.
The SRC are on a roll at the moment and it would be great if we could perhaps field a few teams.
Please reply to Tim Reeves as soon as possible if you're able to ride.....even if you're not a 'regular' there is usually a good prize list for all, and we'll put some teams together.
14 July 2008 A few of us are already thinking ahead and are planning an early season 'training camp' in Majorca. Flights are now available on easyjet and we will be planning to stay in Palma Nova. If you haven't been before. it's really a great place to visit and the cycling is really second to none.
Those that have already booked will be leaving on 19th March and returning on 26th.... Again, it would be good to get a group of us together for some serious riding & socialising !! Tim Reeves

- The Bower Hinton Bike Ride that takes place on Sunday September 7. The Bower
Hinton Bike Ride is a sponsored event that is organised to raise money for the
Orchid Cancer Appeal. Orchid was the first registered charity dedicated to funding
research into diagnosis, prevention and treatment of male cancers.
The ride is organised for the more adventurous cyclist as well as families and
therefore we have 3 routes: 7.5, 15, and 30 miles, which work to allow cyclists
of all ages and abilities to join in and have a fun day. This is an annual event
that not only raises money for Orchid, but that also promotes cycling. Whilst
it's a non-competitive event, people do pride themselves on their times.
All routes will be well signed and marshaled. Refreshment stops will be available
on the 15 and 30 mile route. All routes start and conclude at the Rose and Crown
pub, Bower Hinton. Food as well as alcohol will be available at the pub!
With the decline in deaths from lung cancer, prostate cancer is becoming the
most important cancer issue in men. There are over 30,000 cases diagnosed each
year, with one man dying every hour of prostate cancer. When caught at an early
stage the survival rate from testicular cancer is over 98% - but men need to
know what to look for! The Bower Hinton Bike Ride, as well as promoting cycling,
seeks to raise awareness of these previously neglected diseases.
Last year 40 cyclists took part and we raised £2,500 for Orchid. This
year we are aiming at 100 cyclists and seek to raise £5,000. We need your
help to achieve this! Please consider joining us for this event, and please
tell all your members and friends.
