Club News - 13th April 2003

Somerest Road Club won the team prize in a 10 mile time trial at the weekend. John Wynn, from Somerset Road Club/Bicycle Chain, followed up his second place in the Pittards Road Race at Yeovil last Sunday, by again travelling to Yeovil for the Western Division Championship 10 mile time trial to lead his team mates and retain the team gold medal from last year. His time of 21 mins 31 secs was only beaten by Chris Ball, one of the top UK riders and previous national champion. The race was contested by the top 117 riders from a wide area.

The second team rider was Andy Winterbottom in 22.00 and third team member was Ian Hounsell with 22.58.Other SRC riders supporting the team were Rick Johnson in 23.16, Tim Reeves 23.26, ever improving Mark Kurpyta 23.43, Leigh Pinchen 24.11, Martin Pearse 24.39. As ever, SRC chairman Tom Cox was riding and finished in 23.27 accompanied by racing secretary Kevin Sayles in 25.22 and club secretary Ray Pollard in 25.37.

Tom Cox also rode in the Poole Wheelers' 25 mile 2 up time trial, between Poole and Ringwood on Sunday. Riding with Pete Pickers he came 6th in 58.22. The race was won by Ian Aycliffe and Chris Ball from Salisbury Road Club in 55.12.
