Club News - Easter Weekend 18th to 21st April 2003

On Easter Monday, Somerset Road Club - The Bicycle Chain held their own team time trial starting and finishing at the Podimore roundabout on the A303. It was a 2 up 25 mile Team Time Trial. The event was won by M Loader (Yeovil CC) and P Kench (Liphook Cycles RT) in 53 mins 57 secs. Not far behind was Somerset RC/Bicycle Chain's team of Tom Cox and Andy Winterbottom in 54.27. Other Road Club teams were Rick Johnson and Mark Kurpyta in 58.38; Leigh Pinchen and Mark Pearse in 58.44; Gary Pepper and Martin Baxter in 1.03.19 and Ray Pollard and Richard Hill in 1.05.12.

On Easter Sunday, in the North Devon Wheelers' 25 mile 2 up Time Trial, Tim Reeves and Mark Kurpyta were the first vet team in a time of 1.01.13. Leigh Pinchen and Mark Pearse rode as a mixed vet and senior team, finishing in a good time of 1.00.39.

And on Good Friday there was the Mid Devon CC 23 mile sporting time trial. The times of the Somerset Road Club riders were Leigh Pinchen 1.00.21; Martin Pearse 1.03.01; Mark Kurpyta 1.03.49; Tim Reeves 1.05.11; Derek Henson 1.08.46 and Greg Venn 1.10.37.

The Road Club's junior members were also busy. Greta and Torsten Junker rode at Castle Coombe on Good Friday. Greta did well to come 3rd behind 2 strong boys in the under 14s. Torsten rode in the under 10 race, which was run concurrently with the under 12s. He had a great race - easily winning the under 10 age group, ending up being beaten in the closing stages by only 2 of the under 12 boys.
