Somerset RC / The Bicycle Chain continued their solid run this year by winning the Team Prize in the Yeovil CC 25 mile Time Trial on the Podimore course near Yeovilton on Sunday. The 3 riders to secure the team prize were Andy Winterbottom (55-29), Lee Pinchen (59-37) and Martin Pearse (1-0-18). Richard Hill came home in 1-04-16 and club chairman Tom Cox (riding for Northover Vets Team) recorded a time of 59-33.
The club also narrowly missed out on the team prize in the Chard Wheelers 10 mile time trial on Saturday night, again at Podimore. Rick Johnston finished in 22 mins 26secs, Tim Reeves in 22.52 and Tom Cox in 23.08.
On Wednesday, Greg Sandy (Team Endurasport and SRC) set a new course record in a 10 mile time trial at Okehampton and then, the next day, convincingly won the first of Tor 2000's races at Ilton.
Tor 2000 (Glastonbury's cycling club) is holding 3 races for youths at Merrifield Airfield at Ilton. In the first race last Thursday, Somerset Road Club/Bicycle Chain members won two categories; Max Perris won the under 14 category and Felicity Perris the under 12s.
