Club News - 9th March 2003

Two Somerset Road Club riders took part in the Chippenham and District Wheelers Open Hilly Time Trial over a very windy 24 mile course. Ian Hounsell posted a time of 1 hr 1 min 9 secs. Mark Kurpyta beat last year's time by over 2 minutes finishing in 1 hr 4 mins and 51 secs. The race was won by Colin Wallace of Port Talbot Wheelers in 57 mins 28 secs.

Meanwhile, the club's youngest rider, Torsten Junker, came second in the under 10s Circuit Race at the Castle Coombe Motor Racing Circuit, over a 5 mile course.

Other local riders competed in the Castle Coombe races with Greg Sandy winning the 40 mile road race for elite riders and Greta Junker winning the under 14 girls event over 8 miles.

Tom Cox, SRC's chairman, rode the Border Cycling Association 2 up time trial over 20 miles, near Farnham. His partner was John Williams from Bridgwater and they were the 5th fastest team in a time of 47.46.
