Club News - 16th March 2003
It was a busy weekend for Somerset Road Club with some members riding both Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday there was the Gillingham Wheelers 19 mile Hilly Time Trial near Bruton. It was won by Chris Ball in 44.25. The times for the Road Club riders were Martin Pierce at 49.30 (third veteran); Lee Pinchein at 50.03; Mark Kurpyta at 51.23; Kevin Sayles at 54.00; Greg Venn at 56.07 and Derek Henson at 56.21.
On Sunday, Somerset Road Club entered 2 teams in the Weston Wheelers 25 mile, 4 up, Team Time Trial on the A38 between Falfield and Whitfield. The Club's B team (John Wynn, Andy Winterbottom, Rick Johnson and Ian Hounsell) won the event in 54.52. The Club's A team (Lee Pinchein, Martin Pierce, Mark Kurpyta and Derek Henson) came 8th in 59.47. The Club's chairman, Tom Cox, rode for another team (with John Williams, Jack Brown and Alan Dawson) and came 7th in 59.39.
