Club News - 23rd March 2003
On Saturday, several Somerset Road Club members rode the Sotonia C.C.'s Open 10 mile time trial, near Andover. The course is usually very quick but the cold windy weather made the ride difficult. The Club members' times were - John Wynn at 21.41, Ian Hounsell at 22.19, Rick Johnson at 22.59, Mark Kurpyta at 23.36 and Tim Reeves at 24.07. The race was run by Michael Hutchinson in a time of 19 mins 54 secs (an average of 30 mph).
On Sunday, Tim Reeves was in action again, coming 8th in the 2nd round of the East Dorset Cycling Association's Open Points League in a time of 40mins 44secs. The 27 kilometre event was won by I Ayliffe (Salisbury RC) in a time of 38.09.
Sunday also saw the South Molton hilly 30 mile time trial. From 21 starters, Lee Picheon came 3rd with 1 hr 20 min 44 secs. Other Road Club times were - Martin Pearse in 1.22.30 (coming 6th); Greg Venn in 1.32.27 and Derek Henson in 1.32.34.
Meanwhile, the club's chairman, Tom Cox rode the Central Sussex 2 up hilly time trial, north of Worthing, with Jack Brown. They were the fatest veteran team (and 9th overall) in a time of 1 hr 7 mins 15 secs.
