Late September 2002 - Record Breaker!

Three more recent successes have taken Greg Sandy (Bikeshop UK) to a noteworthy 2002 victory tally of 31. He rode away from the field to win a 33-mile race on the Thruxton Motor Curcuit on September 21. A few hours later on the nerarby P613 time trial course he became the first Taunton rider to break the 20 minute barrier over 10 miles, exceeding a 30 mph average. His national status of 19 mins 45 secs in the Andover Wheelers event also gave him first place in a strongish 90-rider full field .

Somerset Road Club riders also performed well with Jon Wynn doing a PB 20.25 to place eigth, Kevin Sayles, a season's best 21.40 and Martin Pearse a PB 22.13. In the final event of a busy seven month season on September 29, Sandy then won Yeovil CC's 10 mile time trial on the Podimore U30 course with another impressive time of 20.38.

Somerset Road Club also capped a successful season winning another team prize with Andy Winterbottom second in 21.17, Jon Wynn third in 21.30 and Rick Johnston 13th in 22.27.

Other Somerset Road Club times in the 90-rider field were Martin Pearse (22.56) and Leigh Pinchen (23.26). The previous Sunday, Jon Wynn won Mid Devon's CC's 10-mile time trial on the Buckfastleigh S4 course with a strong 20.49. Also in the 50 rider field wearing Somerset Road Club colours for the first time, was Andy Winterbottom who placed third with 21.33 and Dave Bentley was sixth in 22.10.
