Week ending 5th October 2003
This weekend saw the 15th annual Cheddar Challenge, which attracted mountain bikers from all over the country. Somerset Road Club/The Bicycle Chain was represented by Dave Poole, Julian Ridgley and Max Perris. Dave commented ' The Cheddar Challenge is one of the best organised off road events and the very dry conditions were perfect for off road racing'. The course included some very steep uphill sections, with 300 metres of climbing in each lap, as well as tricky downhill sections on a rocky and twisting course - there were no easy sections to recover on.
Dave rode in the Male Veteran category and finished the 3 laps in 1hr 33 min 55 secs. Julian completed the 4 lap Masters event in a time of 1:49:53. Max was riding his first off-road event in the Fun category and finished the 2 lap event in 1:19:54.
