Week ending 21st September 2003

It was a gloriously warm, late September afternoon on Saturday at the Andover Wheelers' 10 mile time trial on the P613 course, with only a slight cross wind. It was by far the largest field for a Time Trial locally, including several riders from Somerset Road Club/The Bicycle Chain, on a quick course 'out & back' on the A 303.

In the Senior category, Jon Wynn came 7th out of 51 in 20 mins 47 secs, only 39 seconds beghind the winner. In the age 40 to 49 Vets Category, Tim Reeves finished in 22.10, Mark Kurpyta in 22.24 and Tom Cox in 22.27 but the winner, Ray Hughes of Clarence Wheelers, achieved a very impressive 19.34. In the over 50 category Rick Johnston clocked an impressive 21.30.

Tom Cox was back in Andover on Sunday for the 25 mile time trial, finishing in a good time of 58 minutes 8 seconds. Meanwhile, Mark Kurpyta switched to Devon on Sunday for the Mid Devon CC 10 mile time trial on the A38. He came 9th in a time of 23.30.

Martin Pearse and Leigh Pinchen took the harder option on Sunday, riding the Weston Wheelers' hilly time trial through Burrington Coombe and over the Mendip Hills. Martin completed the 26 mile course in 1 hour 11 minutes and Leigh in 1 hr 12 mins.
