Despite the tough conditions, with a freezing cold strong wind, 5 Somerset Road Club riders contested the second Springtime Pursuit on the A30 at Whimple near Exeter on Saturday. Greg Sandy rode away from the main pack to take a fine win on the steep uphill finish. Many other riders could not stay with the pace of the front riders but SRC members, Nick Mace, Martin Hunt, Jason Coles and Alec Leslie all finished well in the main bunch.
Diane Jones was not deterred by the cold in the women's race and finished in second position. Having won last week's race Diane is well placed to take the overall women's trophy in the last of the three Pursuits next Saturday.

Meanwhile on
Sunday, the Somerset Road Club timetriallers had their first event of the season
on a bittery cold morning based on the Frome by- pass. Despite the difficult
conditions there was a very large field for such an early event. It was very
hard on the outward leg but fast on the return - nearly 40 mph in places.
In the solo event, Rick Johnston was 13th in a time of 25 mins and 44 secs,
with Tom Cox 14th, just 4 seconds behind. The winner from the field of 40 riders
had a time of 24.02.
In the team
event, Tim Reeves and Mark Kurpyta were the first veteran team (and 7th overall)
in a time of 26.05. There were 34 teams and the winning time was 22.24.
