Week ending 16th May 2004
It was a busy week for Somerset Road Club/Bicycle Chain time trial riders. On Wednesday, Greg Sandy (Alcan/Bianchi) won the Exeter Wheelers' 10 mile time trial on the Honiton bypass. It was a fairly calm and dry evening, probably the best conditions so far this season and Greg took advantage to set a new course record and win by a minute and a half in a time of 20 minutes 6 seconds. Tim Reeves finished in 22.15 and both Leigh Pinchen and Tom Cox finished with a time of 23.27.
On Saturday, Greg was in action again for a road race at Thruxton Motor Circuit, near Andover. He took the final sprint to win the race from his team-mate Neil Coleman.
Also on Saturday Jon Wynn put in a strong performance in the Crabwood CC 10 mile time trial, on the P613 course near Andover, to finish in a time of 20.54. Later that day on the same course Tom Cox rode the VTTA(Wessex) 10 mile time trial but the conditions had deteriorated with an awkward cross wind. Tom finished in 22.49.
On Sunday, Tom was in action again for the Welsh 25 mile Time Trial Championships on the R25/7A course between Raglan and Abergavenny. Tom's time of 59 minutes 35 seconds put him well into the top half of a full field of 120 riders.
