Week ending 31st May 2004 (Bank Holiday Monday)
Mark Kurpyta, time triallist with Somerset Road Club/Bicycle Chain rode 4 time trials over the bank holiday weekend and was rewarded for his hard work when he beat his 10 mile personal best by 13 seconds. Mark's PB was set in the Poole Wheelers' 10 mile TT on Monday on the P415 course in a time of 22 minutes and 10 seconds - an average of 27.1 m.p.h. Tom Cox also finished in the same time.
On Thursday 27th, Mark rode the Mid Devon CC 10 mile TT on the S4 course, finishing in a time of 22.55. The event was won by Greg Sandy (Alcan/Bianchi) in a very fast time of 20.10, beating the second placed rider by a minute and 20 seconds. Tom Cox finished in 23.02 and Richard Brown in 23.31.
On Saturday, the event was the Frome Wheelers 10 mile TT on the U369 course. Mark finished in 24.10 but Tim Reeves' hopes were dashed when he punctured on the starting line.
It was a 25 mile TT on Sunday run by Clevedon RC on the U21 course. Mark was disappointed with his time of 1hr 1min 45 secs but this obviously fired him up for the PB on Monday.
