Johnny Porter competed in a race in Geneva, Switzerland, called the Classique Genevoise on the 19th June . The elite race was 80kms/4 laps and featured profesionals and generally useful riders such as Laurent Jalabert! Johnny competed in the category down from that over 60kms/3 laps. The temperature was up over 30 degrees and the course suited him with relatively short climbs. On the last lap, he broke away from the others and held on to a narrow 10 second margin for the last 3 miles to take his first win. Website, www.classiquegenevoise.ch.

Dean Robson continued his great recent form to finish a well deserved 2nd place in the John Andrews Memorial Road Race, near Langport on Sunday. The conditions were very hot and over half of the original 55 riders failed to finish due to dehydration. Dean missed the early breakaway but later managed to bridge the gap from the main bunch to join the leading group. Several other riders tried but failed to bridge the gap. Despite the effort needed to join the leading group, Dean still had the energy to finish 2nd, only 10 seconds behind the winner, E Deane from Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers. On the previous Thursday, Dean also finished 2nd in the Mid Devon CC 25 mile time trial on the S4 course.

The Bristol South CC 10 mile time trial was held on the undulating ' U7' A38 Thornbury course. The conditions were very hot with a freshening crosswind. The SRC riders' times were - Tim Reeves at 22.29 and Rick Johnston at 23.17. Meanwhile Kevin Sayles competed in the hilly 16 mile time trial near St Budeaux, finishing in 39.13.

Somerset Road Club/Bicycle Chain riders took the team prize in the Clevedon & District RC 50 mile time trial, held on the U21 course, based on two laps of a Cross to Bridgwater circuit. Jon Wynn won the event producing a fine ride on this course which was not helped by a crosswind throughout. He narrowly missed out on his own course record with a time of 1.52.29. Tim Reeves was 8th overall with 2.04.19 and Mark Kurpyta was 17th in 2.15.59, still suffering the effects of his recent Lanzarote Ironman.

Meanwhile Greg Sandy won the CS Dynamo 25 mile time trial on the S4 course near Buckfastleigh in a time of 54.41, beating Julius Jenings by 2 minutes. This was a fine effort after Greg's win the previous day in a road race at Colerne and the Ilton win 3 days earlier.

Dean Robson produced another great ride to win the bronze medal in the National Open Junior 25 mile time trial championship. His time of 56 mins 3 secs was another strong performance on a very windy Saturday afternoon at Port Talbot in Wales. He was disappointed that he missed the silver medal by under 30 seconds but put this down to riding over-geared on the outward windy 12.5 miles. With his lack of rides at this disipline and a few nerves on the day he could be forgiven for this small error of judgement.
