Wessex
Way - Weston-super-Mare to Seaton
Route 33, the 75-mile Wessex Way from Weston-super-Mare to Seaton, was officially launched on the weekend of 4th-5th May with a two-day Trailblazing Ride, by Sustrans Supporters and their friends. Between 30 and 40 riders covered, as closely as possible, the anticipate route. The first Route 33 sign was unveiled on the newly-completed section linking Dunball with Bridgwater, along the Bank of the River Parrett. The route will include five miles of beach at Brean Sands, crossing a new tidal sluice at Diamond Farm.
The route is due for completion by 2005. Planning permission for the link between Ilminster and Chard is being sought. Somerset County Council has started this section by building an excellent cycle path on the disused railway line between Ilminster and Donyatt.
