Straight from the off, the pace was very fast with the local knowledge riders managing to split the race into two within the first half of the circuit.
Several attacks within the first 2 laps (6 miles) saw the Kona team, TOR 2000 riders & DAVE BENTLEY SRC dictating the race pattern.
The fast race pace eventually took its toll & Greg Sandy & George Sichardson broke away from the smalll group to leave James Williams, Graeme Lackford & Dave Bentley fighting for the Bronze medal. In a fiercly contested sprint local rider Greg Sandy deservidly took the Gold Medal honour over the line from George Richardson in silver position. In the battle for bronze James Williams took the sprint, & ever consistant Graeme Lackford 4th. Local rider Bentley cramped up due to all his attacking efforts earlier during the race & did not contest the sprint settling for 5th place. Kenny Parker did well to finish on his own well down on the leaders in the very windswept conditions & just missed out on the last point available JUNIORS 1. DOUG DEWEY TOR 2000 2. Noyce, one of the senior riders in the race, had the race under control throughout although Dave Wilkinson tried but failed with his lone attempt with 3 laps still to go. Local time trial rider Leigh Pinchen did well to finish in eighth place amongst the experienced road men on the hard windswept circuit.
