Global Heating
Ltd Points Series #1
Promoted by Team Tor
2000
Next Event - Thursday 23rd
June - 7.30pm Merryfield Airfield, Ilton.
It couldn't have been a better evening for the first of the Team
Tor 2000 Global Heating Ltd points series races. This was reflected by the good
fields in both the E,1,2,3 and 3,4,W,J events.
The E,1,2,3 event was dominated very early on by an
attack from Dave Bentley, Paul Barrett (1st Chard Wheelers) and Greg Sandy,
unfortunately Paul punctured after 2 laps leaving the other two to continue on
their own. Following persistent attacks from the main bunch Steve Lampier and
Rex Facey managed to break clear and bridge the 30 second gap that separated
them and that set the remainder of the race - with the final sprint being
won by Greg Sandy and the bunch sprint won by Junior (with
dispensation) Chris Opie. to take 5th place.
The 3,4,W,J race was again dominated by a small early break from
Junior Jon Opie and Dan Coast, following persistent attacks from the main bunch,
with 3 laps to go Alex Fitzgerald broke away from the main bunch and in
just 2 laps caught the 2 riders in excess of a minute ahead and stormed straight
past them to finish 30 seconds ahead of Jon with Dan a further 15 seconds
after that - a phenomenal ride from Alex! The main bunch sprint was then won by
Steve Noyce to take 4th place.
Many Thanks to all our helpers on the night, especially Jill
Lackford, Ian Matthews and those roped into judging!
