Training and Club Runs There are several weekly club runs to choose from depending upon fitness and time/distance.

The Social/Beginners Ride

Ideal if you are new to cycling these leave The Parade (Lloyds Bank) in Taunton at 9am on Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday. This is an ideal ride for beginners or those who want to chat as they ride. Average speed is in the region of 15 to 17 mph, nobody gets dropped and left to ride alone. On Wednesdays the ride takes quiet lanes and generally ends up at a cafe in Langport. The Saturday and Sunday rides choose different routes according to weather and wind conditions. Full details can be obtained from Pete Sandy at We would recommend you email Pete to confirm the ride details before turning up.

The Experienced Ride

This meets on Saturdays at 9am at Cross Keys and takes a route to a cafe at Bampton. Generally there is one group riding sensibly out to the cafe with two groups on the return leg with the fast group ripping it up a bit on the way back, so be prepared. Neither of these rides are for those who are completely new to cycling. You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness and there is a biggish hill to tackle on the way home. For the return journey riders should choose which group is right for them and be realistic about their fitness and ability. Some riders may wait for you if you are dropped but this is not guaranteed. If this ride is not for you then please consider the ride from The Parade instead.

For riders who live in the Bridgwater area Bridgwater CC meet at Morrisons carpark at 9am on Sundays and again the route varies. Several of our members join up with this ride.

You should be aware that club rides can be a little more sporadic in the summer months due to many members travelling to races/events. If you are intending to join us on any of the above rides please read the 'club run etiquette' below. This is for your safety and the safety of other riders. It is encumbant upon all riders to observe the rules of the road at all times.

The Taunton Vale Cycle Racing Association(TVCRA)

The TVCRA is an amalgamation of the local cycling clubs that come together under the TVCRA umberella to organise races and training nights at RNAS Merryfield, Ilton. These run from April through to September and include coaching and race practice for youths from the age of 5. You must be a member of a TVCRA affiliated club in order to take part in the training and coaching sessions which are particularly useful for children. Full details including fees and application forms can be found HERE

Just a few more points to note...... NO Dogs are permitted at Ilton, even if they remain in cars, anybody with dog will be refused access as of the 31st March 2013. NO rubbish to be dropped on site - to do so could result in the loss of the facility! All visitors must sign in on arrival. Helmets and numbers must been worn and be visible whilst riding on the circuit.

Club Chaingang

These run from April to September and leave at 5.45pm sharp from Trull Post Office and then ride up to Highbeech Cottage bus stop for 6pm to met the rest of the gruop on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (please check facebook for any changes). Only the seriously fit should attempt these sessions so as not to slow the training down for the really fast boys. You will also need to have good bike control and be comfortable with having riders around you at close quarters and at a high speed.
